senseBox eco-system

senseBox - an environmental measurement station

The senseBox is a measurement station for different environmental phenomena. The core is an easy-to-program Arduino microcontroller to which various sensors can be connected to measure temperature, humidity & rain, visible and UV light, particulate matter etc. The senseBox is a modular do-it-yourself kit suitable for use in digital education, citizen science and large environmental sensor networks. The senseBox was developed in a research project and is now distributed by the company re:edu GmbH & Co KG.

senseBox Blockly - A Programming Interface

We developed a visual programming interface for the senseBox: Blockly for senseBox allows anyone to become a software programmer and develop their own systems with sensors that can interact with the world. Our physical computing approach brings together the creative and the technical aspects in a practical fashion and allows students to enhance their creative problem solving skills.

openSenseMap

The www.openSenseMap.org is probably the largest platform for open environmental and sensor data worldwide and is available for everyone to access environmental data free of charge, to analyse it and to publish their own measurements. These measurements have been collected by one of the several thousand senseBoxes worldwide just like numerous other environmental measuring stations. This has created a unique dataset with real-time data all over the world, providing verifiable local and global facts on environmental phenomena and climate change.
